Artists of the Month
Feisty
Redhead is a Fargo native who has been living in
Minneapolis for the last 9 years. She paints abstract
art on canvas with focus on color and texture. Her art
is meant to evoke emotion through the use of color,
contrast, depth and texture.
When asked about her
name, she explained, "I do not feel that it should be
about me, the art can speak for itself. My name has
nothing to do with it, but I hope the feisty-ness always
comes through."
She explains about her
process in the following quote: "I start with a color
and a blank canvas and let the paint flow. Often times,
I start a piece and come back to completely change it
months later. I rarely know how a painting will look or
feel when it is finished. Regarding materials, I enjoy
oil and acrylic painting equally. When I work with oil,
I am reminded to slow down and enjoy the process.
Acrylic is my immediate gratification paint, I also use
it as a base to get the process started and add texture
and additional color with oils."
Being abstract, Feisty's
art can be interpreted in a number of ways. She says,
"I feel that art is personal. I do not tell people what
to look for in any of my paintings. I love hearing what
someone sees or feels-especially when it is a completely
different perspective than I have on the same piece. It
shows that art can be emotional and bring out many
different feelings and perspectives. I have a love of
color and painting brings me joy. It is that simple. I
feel that many times this simple idea can be
overcomplicated. There is a formality in the art world
that I do not comprehend. Art is meant to show joy,
sadness, and a huge range of emotion."
